WNT (UK)’s high-performance, indexable insert drilling system, the C900 High Feed Drill has been further developed to enable customers to maximise productivity. Already available in 3x, 4x, and 5x drill diameter variants, the range has now been extended to include 2x diameter drills. The 2x diameter variant will allow users to maximise the performance of the C900 High Feed Drills by making the most of the most of the reduced flute length and added stability that it brings.
As with the existing drills in the range the new additions will also make use of the same style of insert for the centre and peripheral cutting edges although, of course different sized inserts are required throughout the diameter range. With the added benefit of four cutting edges per insert the C900 range is helping to greatly reduce inventory and manufacturing costs for users, and also simplifies the tool set-up as the operator does not have to identify the correct insert for each position.
The 2x diameter drills are available from 14 mm through to 63 mm diameter and the shorthened flute length will further enhance the ability of the drills in applications requiring holes in uneven, inclined, or convex surfaces; and components with cross holes, welded seams, and chain drilling operations pose little problems, where the existing range already excels. Further simplifying matters is the decision to create just one carbide grade for the C900 drills. This is the CCN 1430 PVD coated carbide grade, which provides the optimum combination of toughness and wear resistance required for the drilling process. This combination also gives the C900 High Feed Drill good drilling performance and high process stability, even under difficult drilling conditions, in a wide range of materials.
