Highly Productive Solution for Orthopedic Products from WNT

A leading manufacturer of a wide range of Orthopedic Products made up of Stainless Steel 316L, Stainless Steel 316LVM or Titanium, was in search for a T-slot cutter, to machine slots on implants called “nails”. However due to unreliability of locally made cutters in widths of slots, tool performance was struggling to increase productivity.

The customer, an entrepreneur, who initiated manufacturing of orthopedic implants in India, was using a Star sliding head machine. Therefore our technical sales engineer offered test cuts with Minimill products from our new tool selection for sliding head applications. Finally, he found a reliable and efficient solution with the carbide MiniMill holder and specially engineered inserts.

With the help of WNT he could reduce the cycle time by 50% and increase tool life by 50%. The customer saved on a potential investment of two new machines and could meet up with the production volume demand with his present machining set up. Furthermore, the costs per component was reduced and process reliability increased.
