Blustery conditions at Chase Water Watersports Centre for the third round of the British Formula 2 powerboat championship saw Steve Hoult continue his winning ways in his
WNT Red Mist racing boat, taking two wins out of three in an action packed event over the 18th and 19th July.
The weekend started well for Steve as he set a blistering pace to claim his and WNT Red Mist Racing’s first ever pole position in the F2 class. Following qualifying the weather improved, blue skies appeared and the wind abated ready for the start of heat one on Saturday. Steve got a superb start and dominated the race from the lights going out to the chequered flag to take a well-deserved win. A damp and breezy start to Sunday’s racing saw Steve suffer slightly at the start of heat two, finding himself demoted to second place by the first turn, losing a further place to championship rival Colin Jelf shortly after. A battling performance saw him maintain third place.
Faced with a short turn round before heat three the team pulled together to make the boat ready and Steve lined up in third place on the grid. Once again Steve in his WNT sponsored boat got a blistering start exiting the first corner in first place, only for the race to be stopped due to an incident with another boat. Back on the grid for the restart Steve reproduced his good start and stormed into second place behind Alan Marshal, who was forced into a mistake two corners later, ‘hooking’ his boat and losing lots of momentum. This allowed Steve to take the lead, a position he maintained to the end of the race.
These results put Steve firmly at the top of the championship standings with just three race weekend’s left until the end of the season. “These back-to-back wins are a superb achievement and to be in such a strong championship position with only three rounds left is an exciting place to be. The support that WNT has provided in terms of help with development machining of new parts for the boat have been an immense help so far and there is still more to come,” says Steve Hoult, Driver, WNT Red Mist Racing.
